Recapturing the True Spirit of Sport
A Community-Wide Forum on the Culture of Sport

Saturday, June 11, 2005

Reasons for Change and Opportunities for Improvement

Sports, in its many manifestations, plays an important part in our lives, whether as a player, coach, parent, fan, or an organizer. Everyone has a story about the impact of sport on our lives; positive, negative, and sometimes both.

We have the opportunity to determine the ethos of sport in our community and our society. Sports is too important to leave to happenstance; we can, and should, design our sports and sports programs to have the role in and impact on our community that we know is best.

On Saturday, June 11, 2005 the greater Amherst community will be one of the first communities to tackle head-on the opportunity of designing our sports culture, continuing a year’s work undertaken by over fifty individuals.

(See Chair of the Board Jim Pitts' editorial "Spirit of Sport" for the Amherst Bulletin.)

Our Missions

CCCS To be a catalyst and supporting structure for the transformation of sports culture.
UHF To promote the growth of the sport of Ultimate and celebrate its history.

These complementary initiatives draw upon and support each other's mission.  The CCCS applies the examples, experiences, and lessons learned from Ultimate to promote cultural change in other sports, and ultimately society as a whole. The UHF draws upon community interest in the transformation of sports culture to promote Ultimate and increase the game's exposure, acceptance, and growth.
